Self-Portrait Ideas

I've come up with a few ideas for my self-portrait. Every time I write one down, another one pops in my head. I haven't decided on one idea yet. I think if I develop these a little more, I'll be able to decide on one. Actually, I'll probably come up with more ideas and I'll never be able to make a decision (which just gave me another idea for the project).

  1. I can't make a decision- I don't know how I'll do this one yet. I just came up with it.
  2. My overactive imagination- I would like to combine live action and animation to convey how little time I spend in reality.
  3. Not being able to get to sleep before 2 am and how I believe it is making me crazy- This would fall under the imagination idea since it is usually the ideas in my head that keep me up at night. Instead of animation I would probably use a lot of still images.
  4. My best non-existent relationships- again would fall under my imagination. I want to use slow cuts of still images with narration. I'm afraid it might become too narrative though.
  5. Being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 20- This would most likely be a mix of live action of me and culture jamming with RA medication commercials
  6. Being extremely narcissistic despite myself- This would be about my love of me in spite of how society believes I should see myself. I'm afraid this one would turn into a documentary.

I had a few more ideas, but I believe these are my best. Hopefully I can decide which one to do soon. If I can't I'll post a poll on here and the 4 people who read this can decide.

Edit:

another idea

  • I hate to wear shoes even in public places or outside. I don't know where I would go with that. Just a thought. I really hate shoes.

HAHAHa I took it down just a minute ago. I'll put it back up. I didn't think people would actually vote. And vote for as many as you want!

its only letting me vote twice. hmmm....

okay, pretend i also voted for the sleeping one!

That's weird that it only let you vote twice. But I'll remember the extra vote.

The one about sleep actually originated before you gave out the assignment. I wanted to make it for visions, but time sure does fly when you procrastinate.

okay so now it let me vote a lot and ive marked all the rest. its not because I can't make decisions its because I began to realize you could combine four of your ideas into one and have a really fun piece.

here's my thought...combine overactive imagination (the animation techniques you've learned in modes) with: inability to make decisions, i hate shoes and narcissism.

i can already see that coming together as a short rotoscope piece. for example: shoes provide too may choices/restrictions + your love your feet (cause they're yours) so screw it...you hate shoes! fun, colorful, a little dark humor...very Taylor.

and if you do intensive animation we could talk about the film being 1 minute vs. 3 min. if you feel 3 min. is undoable.

okay...enough for this morning. im out!

ps - you are under no obligation to take this advice...im just throwing ideas out there.

That's a great idea!

After I wrote that I hate shoes I was trying to think of why that is. I came to the conclusion that they are like a prison for your feet and feet as great as mine should be free. And then I read your comment this afternoon and had a good laugh.

I think animation, especially rotoscoping, would be great for it too. I'll develop it a little more over the weekend and see if I would like it more completely animated or a mix of animation and live action/stills and talk to you about the length of it.

I think I also want to incorporate shots of my mom's family’s feet too. I like to make fun of them because they could swing from trees by their toes. I was fortunate enough to not be born with the hand-foot.

Or maybe over the weekend, I'll come up with something completely different and post that.
